Reading Peace Works is hosting this workshop as part of the 2008 Reading International Festival and is open to the general public. The venue is wheelchair accessible.

The call to compassion and justice leads to a rejection of the cycle of violence, which diminishes and degrades. This requires us to develop the capacity to be nonviolent in our daily lives and relationships. This workshop will focus on the core essence of nonviolence, what it is, how it can arise to respond to violence, transform relationships and challenge systems of oppression and injustice.

This workshop will explore the meaning of feminism, nonviolence/violence and power. It aims to give a deeper understanding of how historic and contemporary campaigns for women's rights are grounded in a tradition of nonviolence. We will identify tools and practices that are readily at hand that we can use to strengthen women's rights campaigns.

In 2009 Turning the Tide will run a year-long series of workshops about the power of nonviolence for social change for activists, campaigners and agitators.
There are two ways of participating: core group and one-day participants. Core group participation is for people interested and able to make a commitment to participating in all 11 workshops and actively contributing towards the goals of the course. One-day participants may sign up for sessions of interest to them. Spaces for year-long and one-day participation is llimited. Prior booking is essential.
